In the framework of a survey dealing with the effects of the uncertainty of economic conditions and organisational changes on worker's health and stress, the aim of this paper is to build a contextual variable relying upon an index of sectoral "instability" of employment.  The underlying hypothesis is that in an unstable economic sector, workers are more likely to be stressed than in a sector considered as stable.  Sectoral data available on employment and unemployment are used to compute our index.  Semi-structured interviews conducted in a series of firms with key informants will complement our results.
