The rate of HIV/AIDS among "men having sex with men " in Belgium in 1993 has been estimated between 5. 1 and 12.4 % whereas the rate among the heterosexual population is probably between 0.024 and 0.025%. This result has been obtained by cross-tabulating epidemiological data with behavioural data (from the Belgian national survey on "Sexual Behaviour and Attitudes towards HIV/AIDS'). For several reasons, among which the possible under-reporting of homosexual practices in population surveys, one may think that the real HIV/AIDS rate among "men having sex with men " in Belgium is rather in the lower part of the interval. This does not exclude however that the HIV/AIDS rate cannot be higher in some segments of this population.
